Context
Attributed to Bernardo Soares, identified as a dutiful bookkeeper and leisurely author, born to city of Lisbon and informal record-observer of being Portuguese, as defined by one who is himself—to paraphrase—“…created by language.”
Related to the many known fragments of reverie generated by the author previously published, this particular discovery enters the Linguistic Collection of the Museo do Falso by indeterminate means.
To explain how is beside the point.
To quote the author himself: “…orthography is just as much a living thing as we are.” Language thus lives. Is a person alive because of language? Does language give life? Is language just one vehicle for communication? It certainly can create an identity….
According to Soares, whether true or not, perhaps what makes all languages universal is the act of declaration of Being…in that a language that you claim is yours, becomes a part of you.
